Throughout my life, I learned little lessons on keeping skin looking younger and fresher. Even though I was a research scientist and professor, it didn’t mean I wanted to look old and tired.
Even though I’m over 70, most people are shocked when they see me and learn I am this age. When I used to have healing clients come to my house (I started locally), one woman came in, stressed out and looked older than her age. After working with her, I did some energy hygiene, which raised her level of relaxation. She looked ten years younger in just minutes. You can achieve this too.
In another instance, I gave a friend a recipe for smoother skin, available for little money. After she used it, she was delighted at how much smoother her aging skin looked in just 3 days.
Last, when my own skin started losing vitality, I discovered certain foods caused this problem. Today, I'll share some of these insights with you, So you can achieve the same glowing results.
First I’ll cover what harms your skin, then you’ll hear about what you can do to make it look better.
Point 1: The sun causes premature aging and even skin cancer.
It is especially dangerous if you live between the 35th parallel, where the sunlight is more intense. Here are ways it damages the skin: The sun’s UV rays break down collagen and elastin fibers in the skin's deeper layers, which can make skin less elastic and more likely to wrinkle. The sun’s UV can cause skin to lose moisture, which can lead to dry, scaly patches. And finally, UV light can alter your skin DNA potentially causing skin cancer.
When I was younger, getting tanned was a big deal and a lot of people would go out into the sun and just lay there. I got burned once very painfully at age 14. That’s when I decided never again. My grandmother told me that she looked young for her age because she stayed out of the sun. When she sat in our backyard, she hid in the shade and moved her chair as the sun moved from east to west.
Here are some tips to help with the sun. Avoid the sun between 10 and 2. Wear hats. Use mineral-based sunscreen (rather than chemical-based), meaning use titanium dioxide and zinc oxide-containing sunblocks.
If you get sunburned, aloe vera speeds up the healing process. Some healing compounds and methods help alleviate sun damage, including microcurrent and certain creams designed to heal.
Point 2. Certain foods and chemicals can cause your skin to look pasty and lifeless. First off, smoking can age you faster than anything. Avoid smoking or smoke-filled rooms. It’s not so much of a problem in public anymore, but people used to be able to smoke in airplanes, college classrooms, and restaurants for example. There was no escaping it.
Next, food additives like pesticides, artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives can wreak havoc on your immune system. It takes up the energy needed for your body to heal and detox, overtaxing your systems. It causes your body stress and your skin to look older.
Testing what food and personal care products you’re sensitive to can make a startlingly huge difference in your appearance. The majority of people will notice their skin looking yellowed or lifeless if they have dairy products. I know this is the case for me.
Another class of foods to watch out for is grains. Many people I know, including myself, notice their joints hurting and their skin looking older when they consume any level of grain product.
The less expensive way to check this is to leave off the most common offenders for a week, and see how your skin looks. Then add them one by one. Sometimes it’s a combination of two food types that cause the problem.
Point 3. As for personal care products, there is a huge list of chemicals that can hurt your skin. Some of the worst toxins in personal care products, detergents, and home care products are fragrances. Not the essential oil fragrances. The artificial fragrances. Other chemicals that are problematic are foaming agents like SLS, preservatives like BHA and BHT, glyphosate in GMOs, and pesticide residues in conventionally grown produce. These will build up in your system and cause you to age prematurely.
The detoxing systems in your body such as the liver, skin, spleen, and large intestine, are designed to handle normal pathogens and plant substances that cause you a bit of inflammation and irritation. It is not designed to handle the deluge of drugs, chemicals, and non-natural food additives in our typical modern mode of living. It causes us stress and stress ages your skin unnecessarily quickly.
Let’s get your skin looking better:
Point 4: Dry skin looks older, you knew that right? That’s why so many companies are willing to sell you “moisturizers” at high prices to make you look good for a short while. If they are made of the wrong thing, they will require more and more to keep you looking fresh. What they don’t tell you is that there are ways to hydrate your skin from the inside which plumps up your cells without expensive creams or treatments.
First is to drink at least 2 liters of water a day. No, not coffee or tea. Those have caffeine which will dehydrate you. This means water, you can add lemon or a few drops of orange juice to it, which is better.
Drinking enough fluids alone will make a difference in your skin’s appearance. However, there are two supplements that really help with your skin hydration.
The first is to internally take hyaluronic acid. I know they say to use it on your skin, but internal use has other benefits as well as hydration. It can help lubricate your joints and relieve arthritis symptoms. You’ll find it in joint supplements.
The second supplement is collagen. In addition to helping your skin, it helps build up your nails and hair and improves your joints. Many post-menopausal women and older men prematurely lose their hair or can’t grow it very long because it falls out before it can get very long.
This is the combination I gave to my friend who noticed a difference almost immediately. After using this triple combination for two days, she looked in the mirror upon arising the next morning surprised to see her face look smoother. Now, isn’t that a great surprise?
Point 5: Movement helps nourish your skin from the inside out by bringing nutrients to your skin and extremities. You also maintain your muscle mass as you age as well as preserve your bone density. There are many ways to move without overdoing it. You don’t need to run marathons, lift heavy weights, or spend hours in the gym to get enough movement to improve your skin. A good half-hour session of yoga, gentle stretching, or walking can get the job done.
Movement also helps you get a better night's sleep and increase your metabolism. It dissipates stress, allows me to think away from the house, gets me into nature and sunshine, wakes up the brain, and increases my metabolism. You also secrete toxins through the skin.
I’ve been exercising daily since I was 14, which is one of the things I attribute my youthful appearance and good health to.
Point 6: Last, rest and relaxation. Much of illness and disease is caused by physical, chemical, emotional, and mental stress. What your exercise doesn’t dissipate, it can be released by two easy methods.
Getting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep (we have different requirements). It needs to be deep for a period of time and as uninterrupted as possible. There are plenty of ways to ensure that, including a hot bath before bed, getting exercise during the day, and avoiding stimulants as much as possible, especially past noon.
The other way to get relaxed is meditation or energy hygiene. Take a few deep breaths using your diaphragm to pull air into your lungs, imagine the air filling all your cells from head to toe, and on exhaling, imagine darkness leaving your body and dropping down into the earth away from you. This was what helped my client walk away from her session looking ten years younger. I call it energetic botox, without the toxins.
Lastly, energy healing can help improve skin quality but this takes more than these simple steps. You can receive healing or learn how to heal yourself (and even others). You all have the equipment to do what I’m able.
